Feedback on Your First 50 Pages
This budget-friendly offer is designed for you if you’ve started writing your book in which your expertise and experieces are woven into something meaningful for others — a non-fiction, memoir, devotional, legacy life-story. Before you pour your heart and time further into it, you want to know where it stands.
Maybe you’re wondering:
Is my idea even good enough to continue?
What do I need to address now before writing more?
I know friends and family or AI could give me feedback, but what would someone objective say about it?
You need a Manuscript Review from someone who can give you strategic feedback on what’s working.
That’s why I offer this manuscript assessment on the first 50 pages of what you’ve written so far. While a review of a full manuscript would give comprehensive feedback on your overall structure and flow, that’s not always necessary for new authors. Alternatively, the first 50 pages can reveal a whole lot about your writing style, structure, or what to focus on developing next, saving you some time and money rather than focusing on the whole book.
Honest, encouraging, high-level feedback
What is a Manuscript Review?
In the industry, getting professional, high-level feedback on your book is known as a “manuscript review” or “manuscript evaluation.”
It involves a book professional (such as an editor or book coach) reading a partial or the entire manuscript and providing feedback for the author to make the next essential necessary revisions. This is not developmental editing nor is it line-by-line feedback, which can be quite a steep financial investment.
A manuscript review is usually done before an editor comes in, and can even help you understand what level of editing it needs next.
However, even if you’ve had some editorial work, it would still help you feel confident in taking the next step toward being ready to finish your first draft or move toward publishing your book.
Honest, encouraging, high-level feedback
What You Receive:
- A close, in-depth read of your first 50 pages
- A personalized 3–5 page feedback letter — with inline notes and examples — identifying what’s working and what needs attention
- the 1 or 2 areas I’d focus on first, based on what will unlock you the best momentum
- A 60-minute video call to talk through the letter and so you leave with energized clarity
Why It Matters
Fifty pages can tell you a lot about your book.
It can reveal if your desired reader will be interested enough to keep reading. It can show whether the foundation is one worth building on.
I could offer an exhaustive list of everything that could be better. But that’s more likely send you to bed with the cover over your head, or spur a cleaning frenzy while you avoid your manuscript like toxic mold.
Instead, this review gives you one or two clear next steps, because that focus is what actually moves you forward.
The best books are crafted through iterations, so when you know what to fix first in your opening pages, you’re correcting course for all the ones that follow. You leave with clarity and motivation for the next round of revisions.
How it works
The 50-Page Manuscript Review Process:
1. Partial Manuscript Submission
Share the first 50 pages what you’ve written so far—whether it’s non-fiction, devotional, memoir, devotional or a legacy life story. These pages can include your table of contents or just your first chapters. It should be submitted in 12pt New Times Roman, Gorgia, Arial or Calibri font.
You’ll also fill in an intake form to cover any questions I have for you about context or intention/goal. That’s a good time for you to include any specific questions, concerns are areas in particular that you’re looking for feedback on.
2. In-Depth Read of Your Pages
I’ll dive into your manuscript, taking detailed notes and creating a summary review. I’ll highlight what’s working well and pinpoint areas that need revision before we get into the more detailed editing phase.
3. Focused Feedback
I focus on the three essentials that make or break a non-fiction book: reader resonance (who is your ideal reader, and will they relate to what you’ve written?), authority (does your reader have reason to trust and believe you?), and structure (is your idea progression logical, does the flow and pacing work?). This is where years of coaching big-hearted leaders and writers — not just editing pages — shapes what I look for.
For non-fiction, that means structure, clarity, chapter-to-chapter flow, how compelling your stories and illustrations are, and consistency of voice. For memoirs, it means story structure, how your uniqueness comes through alongside how your reader sees themselves in it, and key elements like scene-setting, dialogue, and pacing.
4. Personalized Feedback 3-5-page Letter
I’ll craft a detailed feedback letter that ranges from 3-5 pages that celebrates what’s working and what’s confusing, missing or weak. Examples and some inline or margin notes will be included for the purpose of clear communication, not editing. Instead of overwhelming you with a list of things to fix, the letter will highlight one or two areas to focus on developing next.
5. One-on-One Video Call
Once I send your feedback letter, we’ll have have a video call to talk through the letter and any questions you have, so you feel confident about the 1-2 steps to focus on next.
